This guided relaxation breathing exercises video by Cris Popenoe is 2 minutes 6 seconds long. It focuses on a single theme of the three part breath (3 part breath) breathing exercise, which is also called the complete breath or dirgha pranayama (dirga pranayama). The video uses a still video clip of a female instructor who also demonstrates the technique whilst relaxing music is played in the background.
This relaxation video has a very focused theme of breathing exercises, specifically the Three Part Breath technique. After a very brief introduction about releasing stress and tension the female instructor gets right into the demonstration.
The audio used in this breathing exercises video contains the voice of the female instructor. Although she speaks a little fast at times, her voice has a nice relaxing tone. There is also relaxing music played in the background.
The female instructor’s verbal instructions are both clear and detailed.
The demonstration is given by the same female that gives the instructions. In other words, she is demonstrating whilst talking. She uses in a frontal seated body position to do the demonstration. She also uses visual cues during the demonstration in the form of her hand positioning and gestures on the abdomen or belly and the chest. This use of hands is very good at supporting and reinforcing the verbal instructions given. In addition, the camera is used to provide both a zoom in close up at the front and a sideways view.
There is one scene used throughout the entire video which is that of the female instructor demonstrating the breathing exercise within a room.
The scene of this breathing exercises video show images of the female instructor sitting on an exercise mat. The camera angle is horizontal towards the instructor’s body with a plain light background in view.
This breathing exercises video is a good example of the Three Part Breath technique. The instructions are clear and in detail, as is the demonstration. The only slightly negative aspect I found was that the instructor spoke a little too fast at times.
