Guided Meditation – A Refreshing 10 Minute Time Out From Exam Revision

Introduction

This guided relaxation video is also a guided visualization meditation video. Created by TheHonestGuys, it is 10 minutes 35 seconds long and uses visualization techniques that focus on a single theme of the guided visualization for a time out relaxation. It uses still video of nature scenes and some special effects, and there is a male instructor voiceover to guide you through the guided visualization techniques whilst nature sounds and/or relaxing music is played in the background.

Theme

The main theme of this guided visualization meditation video is well focused on guided visualization, more specifically the guided visualization for a time out relaxation. There is also a secondary image relaxation theme based around a tropical island paradise beach scene to aid visualization meditation and relaxation and support the guided visualization meditation theme.

Audio

The audio used in this guided visualization meditation video contains the voice of the male instructor who has a relaxing tone of voice and a good pace delivery. There is also relaxing music and nature sounds played in background in combination with the voice at various times.

Instructions

The verbal instructions given by the male instructor in this guided visualization meditation video are clear and detailed. There first 2 minutes are an introduction and a short breathing relaxation exercise. During this period there is a line of blue lights travelling across the screen from right to left leaving a trail of white dots.

At 2 minutes the screen slowly cross fades into a accelerated busy street scene and the speaker talks about how busy our lives are, about taking exams, and about leaving worries behind before the session begins. At 2 minutes 20 seconds the screen quickly cross fades into a view across the top of a city with mountains on the far side with a dull cloudy sky. At 2 minutes 28 seconds the screen quickly reverts back to the busy street scene. At 2 minutes 50 seconds the city scene is shown again and back to the busy street scene again at 2 minutes 59 seconds which is immediately faded out to a white background very slowly. It is at 2 minutes 53 seconds the time out session really begins:

Notice how the business of the world outside is fading and you are becoming more relaxed as you start to leave behind the worries or thoughts that may have been on your mind.
You know you can return to them later.
So for now, its ok to leave them behind as you become cocooned in your own safe world of imagination.

By 3 minutes 20 seconds the screen is completely white and the sounds of waves rolling onto a beach can be heard. At 3 minutes 30 seconds the screen slowly fades into a beach and palm tree scene and relaxing music begins to play:

Imagine yourself now, standing on the white sand of a beautiful paradise island beach.
The sand feels warm and inviting beneath your bare feet.
Waves crash unhurriedly into the sand from an unspoiled turquoise ocean that stretches out to the uninterrupted horizon.
This is your very own tropical island.

From 4 minutes 27 seconds there is then just the sound of waves and relaxing music playing and at 5 minutes 5 seconds the screen cross fades into a close up scene of waves rolling onto a beach. The relaxing music fades out at 5 minutes 52 seconds and at 5 minutes 59 seconds he continues:

You stroll down to the firmer sand where the water meets the land, and you start walking slowly along the beach, allowing the water to wash over your feet.
Notice how warm and comforting the water feels, just like a warm bath.
Smell the freshness of the sea air and feel the gentle warm breeze as you walk.
As you enjoy your time out, soaking up te healing tranquility of this paradise, you start to fully realize that this place is all yours and you can come here whenever you need to recharge your mind.
This is your very own paradise island retreat, a magical place that exists, just for you.

From 7 minutes 43 seconds you can hear just the sound of the waves and at 8 minutes 32 seconds he continues:

You realize its time to return now from your relaxing time out, but you can leave this place knowing you can return here again whenever you choose.

At 8 minutes 43 seconds, whilst he continues to speak: relaxing music begins to play again; credits are displayed from 9 minutes 28 seconds; the screen slowly fades out to black at 9 minutes 37 seconds; and then a credit is shown and the music slowly fades away

Bring to your attention now your breathing.
Start to breathe more deeply.
Use your breath to bring you back to the place you first began your journey.
Slowly open your eyes and take a moment to readjust, becoming wide awake and alert, ready to enjoy the continuation of your day.

At 10 minutes the session has ended and the screen slowly cross fades into a promotional screen with light blue background cloud and white dots and stars with promotional icons and text whilst he says some promotional words and music plays in the background.

Scenes

There are two scenes used in this guided meditation visualization video which are both beach scenes. The first is a tropical island paradise scene with ocean waves rolling onto the sand of a beach, a palm tree and a brilliant clear blue sky. The second scene is a close up view of the ocean waves rolling onto the sand. Both of these are aimed at creating a relaxing visual environment for the viewer.

Images

The scene of this guided meditation visualization techniques video show images of an ocean with waves rolling onto the sand of a beach with a blue sky and a palm tree. The image sizes used for the image relaxation aspect of this guided visualization meditation video are all one size and fill the screen completely. Each image is displayed for a good length of time. I found this to be good for aiding the focusing of attention and relaxation.

Transitions

The transition types between images for the image relaxation aspect of this guided visualization meditation video are simple slow cross fades which help maintain a relaxed state.

Special Techniques

This video also uses what can be considered as special effects early in the video to represent how busy peoples lives are. There is a:

  • Screen with a line of blue lights travelling across the screen from right to left leaving a trail of white dots;
  • Scene with a accelerated up busy street with vehicles and people moving around fast as though busy;
  • Scene with a view across the top of a city with mountains on the far side with a dull cloudy sky.

There is also a simple white background screen used to convey calmness.

This guided visualization techniques video is excellent at taking you through a guided visualization for a time out relaxation session. It is done at a relaxed pace with a relaxed tone of voice from the male instructor. There is also some lovely relaxing nature sounds and relaxing music played in the background. Plus, the instructions given are clear and detailed. It also has an excellent simple image relaxation video aspect to it, displaying tropical island paradise beach scenes which are great for visualization meditation and relaxation.
