Simple Autogenic Relaxation Training Session By do yoga
This guided relaxation video by “do yoga” is 3 minutes 34 seconds long and focuses on a single theme of the Autogenic muscle exercises. It uses a still image of nature scene and there is a female instructor voiceover to guide you through the Autogenic muscle relaxation techniques. There are no nature sounds or relaxing music.
The main theme of this relaxation video is well focused on muscle relaxation exercises, more specifically the Autogenic relaxation technique. There is also a secondary image relaxation theme based around a coastal scene to aid relaxation.
The audio used in this Autogenic muscle exercises video contains the voice of the female instructor only. Her tone of voice is ok but the pace of delivery seems a bit too quick to me. There is also a strange vibrating noise on the recording every now and then which is distracting from concentration and relaxation.
The verbal instructions given by the female instructor are very clear and simple. She gets straight into the training session with a 45 seconds section on preparing for the Autogenics.
She then starts an Autogenic relaxation session which lasts about 2 minutes 25 seconds by asking you to repeat her “commands” in your head. Here, commands means Autogenic phrases which are spoken in the first person as if you were saying them to yourself. Here are the commands, or phrases she uses:
My legs and arms are heavy. (3 times)
My legs and arms are warm. (3 times)
My heart is steady and calm. (3 times)
My breathing is regular and calm. (3 times)
My abdomen is relaxed and warm. (3 times)
My forehead is cool and clear. (3 times)
There is then an ending which lasts for about 25 seconds in which she tells you to remain relaxed for 10 to 15 minutes.
There is only one scene used throughout the entire Autogenic muscle relaxation video which is that of a women standing by darkened coastline in a yoga pose.
The scene of this Autogenic muscle relaxation techniques video show images of a woman in a standing yoga pose, an ocean, sky and some trees. The image size used for this image relaxation video does not fill the screen completely, so there are distracting to concentration which is detrimental to relaxation.
This guided relaxation video with an example of Autogenics muscle relaxation techniques is ok at delivering an Autogenic muscle exercises session. The female instructor gives clear and detailed instructions in a relaxed tone of voice. It also has a good simple image relaxation video aspect to it, displaying a coastline scene which encourages relaxation.
However, I feel the pace of delivery was a little too quick. The pauses between Autogemic phrases was not long enough. Also, there are some noises on the audio recording and the video recording has distracting black bars. Both of these factors are distracting to relaxation.
Correcting the above mentioned factors and adding either some nature sounds, relaxing music or both to the audio recording would make this a good Autogenic relaxation training session.
