This positive affirmations, or positive thoughts image relaxation video by thereachapproach is 20 minutes 27 seconds long and focuses on a single theme of positive affirmations with emphasis on repetition. It uses still video of nature scenes in combination with relaxing music and nature sounds. A calm male voice speaks the affirmations whilst keywords from the affirmations are displayed on the screen.
The theme of the video is well focused on positive affirmations which are spoken in the first person, for example, “I can achieve anything I put my mind to”. These positive thoughts are supported by a visual secondary theme of nature scenes which are primarily based around water. These two focused factors help with concentration and relaxation.
There are a variety of water based nature scenes within this affirmations video which means it is good for focusing attention during relaxation. Many of the scenes are lovely and I especially like the stream waterfall scene with the water running over the rocks.
The audio used in this positive affirmations relaxation video contains nice relaxing music with nature sounds which is continuous in the background. Affirmations are spoken at intervals using a calm male voice which has a slight echo applied to it and at a volume that is louder than the background music so that they are heard. Each affirmation is spoken three times within a single video clip with a reasonable gap between each repetition for thought. These repetitions are good for focusing attention and relaxation. However, the last video clip is much longer than the others and has three affirmations, each repeated three times.
The scenes of this positive affirmation video show nature images in the following types: rivers, streams, waterfalls, rocks, trees, reflections, steps, grass, plants, skies, clouds, coastline, oceans, waves, sunshine, sand, beaches and sunsets.
The video clip sizes used for this image relaxation video are all one size and each video clip is displayed for a good length of time to aid concentration during relaxation. However, the video clip size does not fill the screen completely and distracting black bars are visible which is not good for aiding the focusing of attention during relaxation.
Affirmation text is not displayed in its full form. Instead, keywords or partial affirmations are displayed for some affirmations but not all affirmations. Also the text is displayed in different and unusual ways which cannot be predicted. I found this to be really frustrating and distracting to concentration and relaxation.
The transition type between images are simple cross fades and the transition times between images are nice and slow, both of which help maintain a relaxed state. The transitions for affirmations are good slow fade in and fade out but as described above, they are displayed in a way that is not good for relaxation.
There are no special techniques used in this simple image relaxation video.
This guided relaxation video for a positive affirmations meditation is a good attempt with respect to relaxation. The video clips are good, the transitions are nice, the audio is nice and relaxing and the affirmations are focused. However, there are areas that can be improved: the image should fill the screen completely; affirmation text should be displayed consistently or not at all as the method used is frustrating.
As an ambient background video I find this positive affirmations video interesting with a good variety of nature scenes. The improvements suggested for relaxation would also be good for an ambient background video.
